“Criminal” – Lutan Fyah & Turbulence (Official HD Music Video March 2015)

The Canadian label Riddim Wise, based in Montreal, produced and released the Empire Riddim a couple months ago, in November 2014.  Lutan Fyah’s and Turbulence’s “Criminal” is my personal favorite tune on the riddim.  Check out the awesome brand new video, released two days ago.  A massive one indeed, you’ll agree…

Steel Pulse – “Put Your Hoodies On [4 Trayvon]” (3rd Anniversary Edition) (Official HD Music Video 2015)

I was still in Amerikkka when the innocent 17 year old Trayvon Martin was shot down.  I had attended a candle lit vigil in his memory at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, where the violin was played and certain professors made speeches about injustice and racism.  The moving speeches aimed to remind us that brutal incidents such as this are not a new phenomenon (remember Amadou Diallo?) but neither a thing of the past.  Indeed, police brutality has been in the forefront these last couple of years all over the world. I take this opportunity to send my prayer for the end of unjust human suffering that plagues the earth today.  Big up David Hinds and Steel Pulse for paying a tribute to Travyon and spreading the positive message of unity and equality against injustice…

“Steel Pulse originally released this track and music video on the second anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin, which occurred on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, FL. This is an updated version released to mark the third anniversary of his slaying. Gone, but not forgotten.

This song marks the first official contribution to a Steel Pulse studio track by Baruch Hinds, son of Steel Pulse lead singer David Hinds. Shot on location at the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington D.C., and in Sanford, Florida.”

Directed by Yonathan Gal // Cinematographer: Trishul Thejasvi // Editor: Rory Gordon // 1st AC: Raul Rivero // Camera Assistants: David Revenkov & Brandon Gordon

Virunga (2014 Documentary)

I am familiar with Virunga, the volcanoes and mountain gorillas thanks to the incredible music group, Samba Mapangala.  Naturally, I am looking forward to watching this Oscar nominated documentary by Orlando Von Einsiedel.  You can watch the official trailer here and I’ve also embedded a relevant song by Samba Mapangala, called “Les Gorilles de Montagnes“, for your listening pleasure.

VIRUNGA is the incredible true story of a group of brave people risking their lives to build a better future in a part of Africa the world’s forgotten and a gripping expose of the realities of life in the Congo. In the forested depths of eastern Congo lies Virunga National Park, one of the most bio-diverse places in the world and home to the last of the mountain gorillas. In this wild, but enchanted environment, a small and embattled team of park rangers – including an ex-child soldier turned ranger, a caretaker of orphan gorillas and a Belgian conservationist – protect this UNESCO world heritage site from armed militia, poachers and the dark forces struggling to control Congo’s rich natural resources. When the newly formed M23 rebel group declares war in May 2012, a new conflict threatens the lives and stability of everyone and everything they’ve worked so hard to protect.”

“Le Métèque” – Live Acoustic Reggae Cover of Georges Moustaki’s classic song , by Alpha Blondy

The Egyptian / French / Greek / Italian musician, Georges Moustaki released this in the late 1960s and is one of my personal favorites, both lyrically and musically.  The Ivory Coast artist, Alpha Blondy, did a great job covering this classic in a reggae style and tweaking it appropriately.   Watch & Share the original official music video by Moustaki, the live acoustic reggae version on TV5MONDE as well as the studio version off Alpha Blondy’s latest album, “Mystic Power”.  A song of love and suffering, the lyrics are so good, check them out below the videos!

Avec ma gueule de nègre métèque
De Juif errant, de rasta grec
Et mes dreadlocks aux quatre vents
Avec mes yeux tout délavés
Qui me donnent l’air de rêver
Moi qui ne rêve plus souvent
Avec mes mains de maraudeur
De musicien et de rôdeur
Qui ont pillé tant de jardins
Avec ma bouche qui a bu
Qui a embrassé et mordu
Sans jamais assouvir sa faim
Avec ma gueule de nègre métèque
De Juif errant, de rasta grec
De voleur et de vagabond
Avec ma peau qui s’est frottée
Au soleil de tous les étés
Et a tout ce qui portait jupon
Avec mon cœur qui a su faire
Souffrir autant qu’il a souffert
Sans pour cela faire d’histoires
Avec mon âme qui n’a plus
La moindre chance de salut
Pour éviter le purgatoire
Avec ma gueule de nègre métèque
De Juif errant, de rasta grec
Et mes dreadlocks aux quatre vents
Je viendrai, ma douce captive
Mon âme sœur, ma source vive
Je viendrai boire tes vingt ans
Et je serai prince de sang
Rêveur ou bien adolescent
Comme il te plaira de choisir
Et nous ferons de chaque jour
Toute une éternité d’amour
Que nous vivrons à en mourir
Et nous ferons de chaque jour
Toute une éternité d’amour
Que nous vivrons à en mourir

“Babylon Brutality” – Marlon Asher (New Official Music Video 2015)

marlonasher
Best known for his hit tune “Ganja Farmer”, Marlon Asher, the Trinidadian reggae singer from Enterprise, Chaguanas, returns to the frontline with a brand new powerful song and video against police brutality. Marlon Asher’s perfect flow, positive vibes and conscious, original and notably relevant lyrics depicting the sad, unjust sociopolitical climate, combined with a big sound, reaffirm his singing talent and ability to create reggae masterpieces. “Babylon Brutality” is the first single off Marlon’s upcoming album “Illusions”, out January 13th 2015. I am happy to see Marlon making quality productions once again and getting the recognition he truly deserves. I await the new album’s release in anticipation and with high hopes. Enjoy & share the excellent reality tune & video here!

“Talent is Healing” – Rootsriders ft. Ashwin Jaydee & Maikal X (Official Music Video 2010)

A big tune from Holland, I’ve loved this one longtime.  Off the Rootsriders album “So Much More”. The video is shot on the beautiful island of St. Eustatius in the Caribbean.  Blessed vibes, a positive, inspirational message and great performance by all the artists!

“Is It Worth It ? (Gunman World)” – Damian Marley (Official HD Music Video 2014)

The brand new music video / short film by Damian Marley, off the upcoming compilation “Ghetto Youths International Presents Set Up Shop Vol. 2” (out December 23!, was directed and shot in Morocco by acclaimed directors Nabil Elderkin and Francesco Carrozzini and features renowned French – Moroccan actor Saïd Taghmaoui, best known for his roles in “La Haine” and “Three Kings”. Remarkably well made, the short film provides significant insight into the life, mind and conscience of a “gunman”, i.e. a contracted, mercenary killer. The “Is it Worth it?” message is powerful and successfully delivered through memorable and realistic visual scenes depicting both the violence and humanity of the killer. May not be suitable for all audiences as it contains graphic violence that may be unsuitable to some viewers. Watch the full official video in high definition here.

“Shame” – Mykal Rose & Snow (Official HD Music Video 2014)

Yes, you read correctly.  Canadian international reggae artist Darrin Kenneth O’Brien aka “Snow”, best known for his 1993 hit “Informer”, is back!  This past summer, Snow signed with Bugatti Music Entertainment and, with the guidance of producers Kent Jones and Grammy wining duo Cool & Dre, created this massive tune to explain his disappearance from the music scene in the U.S. And what’s more, the tune features the legend Michael Rose, former lead singer of Black Uhuru.  Two amazing reggae veterans with original and timeless vocal styles; their flow and lyricism have been left intact by the passing of time, which is why the video is so awesome to watch. As Mykal Rose sings: “Some ah dem nah really know we boss”. A must watch and listen!
All proceeds from “Shame” will be donated to the fight against Cancer.

“Ασφάλεια” – Κακό Συναπάντημα (Unofficial Lyric Video by rootsnwingz)

Unofficial lyric video of a great song by Greek reggae band “Kako Synapantima”, on the classic “Solomon” riddim.  The lyrics are a clever and ironic commentary on city life and particularly the current tragico-comic security measures in Athens and Thessaloniki (The increased presence of police and army in the streets, discrimination, abuse of power and especially undercover informas). Video made by rootsnwingz, lyrics are in Greek and were transcribed by rootsnwingz.

Video of Aldous Huxley discussing female bosoms !!

Watch the genius philosopher and writer of “Brave New World”, Aldous Huxley, briefly discuss female bosoms from a historical and social / cultural perspective during an interview.  In this rare footage, Huxley makes some insightful and witty points on the subject.   Educational and hilarious at the same time; notice how he’s struggling not to laugh.  I loved how he was smiling good-humoredly as he analyzed the issue…

Can’t believe this only has 100 views on YouTube…
